AKA vs Cassper Nyovest
Hip hop is not dead. The beef that started in the 90s between
Notorious BIG and
Tupac paved a way for many other rappers world wide to fight for the number one spot by not only making good music but by having beef with one another in order for the public to decide on their favourite artist. As long as hip hop lives, there will always be conflict amongst rappers. In this way artist receive a lot of exposure and hip hop journalist have something to write about in order to receive more readership (print publication).

AKA or Cassper Nyovest: These two hip hop kings have taken South Africa's rap music to the next level. They have made it seem as though hip hop originates from their homeland. However, their level of fame and style of rap differs. AKA's fans will not only be from his home country but from the UK too. Cassper Nyovest raps more in Tswana and most of his fans come from the motherland.

So you are saying that "beef" between rappers are all for publicity reasons, because if it is, then its working. I just think that its stupid to fight just so you can get publicity so you can sell a few copies of your album. Let your music do all the talking!
ReplyDeleteYeah that's true. It also creates jobs for journalists. The more beef the more publicity

ReplyDeleteClearly, it is tough to pick, i listen to them both, but more A.K.A, cos he raps in a universal language, i dont get Tswana. People want to actually hear what rappers say, i cant be English speaking and listen to German or Russian rappers, NO. With Cassper i d like the idea of his music, maybe not necessarily his music unless he raps in English. Other than that, they are both great artists who stand at different places in the face of the earth.
ReplyDeleteThe beef gets the country and other parts of the world shaking, and raising their opinions for once. The media benefits a lot from this too. For me beef is just a way of artists getting feedback from their fans.
I totally agree with you. AKA will be more recognised worldwide because he raps in a language most people understand. So we do love beef, that is why some people get angry when artists squash the beef.
Deletei agree that this is all just for publicity reasons, beef is what keeps the public entertained.. i personally do not listen to these artists nonetheless their both great artists and have something that makes them stand out individually....lovely blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The more beef there is the more publicity and fame. These artists get more followers on social network. Competition brings the best out of them.
DeleteI do believe that the conflict between Cassper and AKA caused alot of hype around their names.. but if one needs to go to such measures to become popular they will be famous for the wrong reasons.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. At the end of the day the fans are divided obviously the English speaking fans are for AKA and the Tswana and Zulu fans are for Cassper Nyovest. People can gain publicity in many ways these days and beef happens to be one of them.
DeleteOkay okay... I truly think that his beef between these two SA rappers was ridiculous.. they both dope.. every artist has to have a chance to shine on they come up.. I'm just so glad right now that the beef between them is over, and hopefully we will be waiting for their collaboration..
ReplyDeleteTrue that but you know these rappers have an ego that no one could ever understand. We are all waiting for the two kings of hip hop collaboration and hopefully it is soon.
DeleteFrom a fan base stand point, AKA has potential to capture an international audience as his music is in an internationally recognised language. In contrast , Cassper's vernacular approach to his music not only limits his fan base to South Africans but a very niche market within South Africa. I don't think his success is sustainable or has potential to go international
ReplyDeleteHence, his single "all eyes on me" made it to the UK playlist. In this case it is best to rap in a language the world can understand. AKA will gain more success and recognition where as Cassper will not get any recognition from people who can not speak or understand
ReplyDeleteTswana or Zulu
DeleteA large part of me believes this so called beef between Cassper and AKA and just a publicity stunt. Celebrities are know for doing this, both this artists sales went up ever since this so called beef started because people were talking about them.
ReplyDeleteIf having beef with one another leads to publicity then it doing a good job, besides what is a celebrity if there are no publicity and how will we know who you are.
DeleteWell whatever is needed for them to make their fans happy, if it is a so called beef then they can beef anytime. As long as they don not stop making music that is enjoyed by their fans
ReplyDeleteThat's true. If the fans enjoy they should not stop. Because everything is about the fans at the end of the days
Deletewhy the beef when artists can work well together. i think this beef thing and " am so awesome over you type of thing'' makes them arrogant and AKA is a good example of that. its not longer about music to them when they've got the fame its now competition.
